Born in the Caribbean Islands, Evelyn Polanco started designing bracelets and trinkets at the tender age of six in her native La Romana, Dominican Republic. Her first creations consisted of items that she collected from trips to the beach: seashells to nutshells and occasionally a few flowers from her grandmother’s garden. Evelyn and her family soon immigrated to the United States, and with her, she brought her style and inspirations that she acquired in her short lived stay in her native land.
As a young woman in a new country, facing many challenges, she never lost sight of what truly inspired her. Her dreams of joy and homesickness got her to pursue her lifelong dream. She attended Studio Jewelers School, LTD., obtaining a comprehensive jewelry certificate. Soon after, she started working for private collections, among others.
This intimate relationship that Evelyn has with her craft, took her towards the realization of her long dream, recreating that intimacy to start POLADIAZ Jewelry Inc. At Poladiaz, she studies the meaning, energy, moods and influences of every stone that she works with. Poladiaz combines stones to create a very unique piece that represent the essence of each individual, creating beauty and aesthetic balance that truly affects the mood, character, interests and preferences of the person. Each order is specially designed with the client profile, completely personalized.
Today, Poladiaz is giving back to the community, sharing the craft of jewelry making with the mothers and daughters of the local middle school P.S. 28 in Washington Heights N.Y., creating a welcoming environment where they can share love and communication. She’s also participating with the following organizations: Blanca’s House and ADEUSA. |
